GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM

  • Total of 24 satellites make up GPS.
  • It wasn't until 1994 did the military have the complete no. of satellites in orbit.
  • Satellites can last for only ten years and to be replaced with another one.
  • Satellites are powered by solar energy but are equipped by batteries which are only activated during solar eclipse.
  • GPS device determines the user's precise location by calculating the time a signal is sent to receiver.
  • The whole process takes the time lesser than one second to accomplish.
